Since the French family emigrated soon after the Pilgrims landed and there were not many families nor marriage choices in America, intermarriages in the French family were common. Here is an intermarriage between Chart #6 and Chart #3. Note that this does not change the male French DNA test results. The son of Dorcas French and Christopher Peake was Jonathan Peake, who m. Sarah French. Sarah d. 1694 which was 23 years after her father, William, named a second dau. Sarah. We need more proof of this connection.

In the obituary, it is mentioned that Joseph's father deceased when Joseph was a small boy in Edgefield District, SC , "leaving himself and others to the care of the mother, and a childhood of deep poverty, hardship and toil".  The obituary goes on to say that Joseph, in early manhood, migrated to Georgia and there married Mary W. Brown, and from there Joseph and Mary then migrated on to Pike Co, AL.  But, alas, the obituary does not mention the names of Joseph P.'s parents! Remarks from these five Genealogists on the Lineage of Aaron French:

1. Charles Newton French, "Aaron French and
His Descendants," 1910.

2. Harry Dana French Collection, 1961.

3. Howard Barclay French, "Thomas French of
Burlington, NJ," 1909

4. Wilna Powell Sawyer, "James Lewis French
and His Ancestors and Descendants," 1973.

--------------------------

1. Charles Newton French gives some hypotheses on the lineage of several unknown New Jersey Frenches. Through DNA Tests, this is no longer valid. Aaron is not part of Chart #20. See Chart #21.

Thomas (A) b. Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire, England

Thomas (1) m. Jane Atkins

Thomas (2) m. Mary Allen

Joseph (3) of Shrewsbury, Monmouth Co., NJ

Joseph (4) who m. Hannah Horn in 1749

Francis (4) of New Gretna, NJ

Aaron (4) b. 1739, d. 1805 in PA

Charles writes about Aaron, and we quote: "It is said that he had two or more brothers, one of whom removed to NY, and another went south. The compiler believes that the latter was Francis of New Gretna, in south NJ near Little Egg Harbor.

2. Harry Dana French compiled some descendants of John French (1) of Middlesex County. He had a copy of the Charles Newton French and Howard Barclay French books and from his research gave Aaron the following lineage:

Thomas (A) b. Nether Heyford, Northamptonshire, England

John (1) b. 1651 of Woodbridge, NJ, as early as 1670,
d. 1747, m. Elizabeth, res. Springfield, NJ.

Richard (2)

John (3) inherited the plantation on Turkey Rd.

Aaron (4) b. 1739

John (4) of Harpersfield, NY

David (4) b. 1747, m. 1776 Sarah Wilcox.

Joseph (4) Rev. Soldier, m. Joanna Osborn.

He has as Aaron's brothers John (4) who "went to the lakes" and was living 1790 in Harpersfield, Montgomery Co., NY (there is Aaron's brother who "it is said moved to NY"); David (4), b. 1747, who m. Sarah Wilcox and was one of the first settlers of Passaic, in northern NJ, and was also in the Montgomery Co. NY 1790 census; and Joseph (4) who m. Joanna Osborn and was a Rev. soldier whom he does not carry forward - perhaps he went south. David's (4) family carries on the name Aaron.

3. Wilna Powell Sawyer, genealogist and FFA member, in her book traces the descendants of Joseph French (4), who m. Hannah Horn in 1749. Wilna writes that Joseph (3), was located in or near Shrewsbury, Monmouth County, where so far as can be learned, he continued to reside until his death in 1752. He left children Joseph Jr., Francis, Aaron, and Mary. Wilna believes that the brother who "went south" was Joseph Jr. (4), who went to Spartanburg District, South Carolina. Wilna bases this line on Charles Newton French's book. Joseph French Jr. had five children: Sarah, William, Joseph, Lafford, and Simon. All four sons entered the Continental Army from the Spartanburg District, SC. After the war, three of the brothers (William, Simon, Joseph) moved to Kentucky. Sarah was b. 17 Mar 1754 at New Jersey City, NJ, m. 1772/73 at Wofford Fort, SC, to Hugh Moore. She d. at age 99. This lineage now ties in with Chart #188, not Chart #20.

4. Howard Barclay French does not list Aaron in his book. He traced only as far as the birth of Joseph (3). Genealogy of the Descendants of Thomas French who settled in Berlinton (Burlington), West NJ, by Howard Barclay French (H.B. French).

Á Chart #31. Henry French, 1755

Lesbury, Northumberland, England, emigrated to Mercer County, KY. Henry was probably born in Lesbury, Northumberland, England. Birth of Henry in Germany is documented in Portrait and Biographical Album, Vermilion Co., KY, 1889, biographical sketch of Ersom French, son of George French, and grandson of Henry French. This portrait also says that after being married to Elizabeth Ersom, Henry French left his home in Germany and sought a new field of labor under the banner of freedom, in the land of liberty. It could be that Henry lived briefly in Germany before immigrating to America. Next step would be to look for a ship record for a Henry leaving Germany in about 1770. It is assumed that the family immigrated to Virginia, then perhaps moved to Maryland, and lastly to Mercer County, KY, in about 1773 when their second child was born. They lived in the Harrodsburg, KY area. This French family was among the first settlers in that area.
