7.1 Lucinda Elbin, b. Feb 1848 in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA, m. Silas (or Lebious) Sammons of West Finley. In the 1850 census of Aleppo, she was 2 years old and living with her parents. In the 1910 census she was widowed, had 3 children, only 1 was still alive, she was living with her son Clarence and his wife. In 1907 when her father died, they were living in West Finley, Washington Co., PA. Her children were Lesllie C. Sammons, John Raymong Sammons, and Clarence G. Sammons.

7.2 Rachel Elbin, b. 1849 in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA, m. George Grim. In the 1850 census of Aleppo, she was 2 years old and living with her parents. She lived in 1880 in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA. She m1. George Grim. She m2. William White of Aleppo and was living in 1907 when her father died. She is not mentioned in the obituary of her father in 1907 unless she is the unaccounted for Mrs. William White mentioned in his obituary.

7.3* Henry Elbin, b. 1853 in Cameron or Aleppo, Greene Co., PA, was an undertaker, was living in the 1860 census in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA. In the 1880 census of Aleppo, Henry is married to Elisabeth V. Snyder and lives with his children John J. 9, and W. H. 6. In the 1910 census of Aleppo, Henry and Elizabeth are living alone. Same is true in the 1910 census. Henry d. 28 Aug 1925 in Marshall Co., WV, a widower, age 73. He was an undertaker.

7.4 Mary Ann Elbin, b. 1854 in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA, d. on 31 Jul 1875 at age 20 in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA, and is buried at the Windy Gap Cemetery in Aleppo, PA. She appears in the 1860 and 1870 census of Aleppo living with her parents.

John W. Elbin, b. ca. 1857, m. Nancy Ellen Henry, lived in Barnesville, Belmont Co., OH between 1900-1910, m. Nancy Ellen Henry. Was his dau. Ella Elbin whom Susan King has a photo of dated about 1911 and was sent to her grandmother in WV. EllaÕs brother was William Henry Elbin, b. 1889, d. 1937; he had left his wife Marie and 4 young children for another woman Gladys. WilliamÕs son was William H. in the 1920 census along with his siblings Ruth, James and twin sister Martha. His grandson was John C. Elbin, and his son was John W. Elbin, d. 1970.

By the 1900 census of Aleppo, John and Nancy were living with their 8 children. By the 1930 census of Paris, Union Co., OH, John was widowed and had moved with his children Quinnie and Omar to Ohio where many of the other Elben family lived. He is not in the 1940 census.

In the 1920 census of Paris, Union Co., OH, he and Nancy were living with 3 of their children: Quinnie, Frankie, and Omar. In the 1930 census of Paris, John is widowed and living with his children Quinnie, Omar, and Catherine Reed, a servant.

7.6 Isabell ÒBelleÓ or Rebecca Elbin, b. 1864 in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA, appears in the 1880 census in Aleppo, Greene Co., PA. She m. Robert Ullom of Aleppo. A dry hole was drilled on Isabelle and Robert UllomÕs farm, 2 miles southeast of Aleppo. She was living in Aleppo in 1907 when her father died.

7.8 Anneta Elbin, b. 1884, m. George Fradiska living in Flintstone, MD, d. 26 Oct 1961 in Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD. They had children George Kenneth Fradiska, 1909-1928, and Francis L. Fradiska, 1912-1983.

Obituary: Cumberland Evening Times, Thursday, 26 October 1961. Mrs. Annetta Fradiska, 77, widow of George Fradiska, 453 Henderson Avenue, died this morning in Sacred Heart Hospital. Born at Gilpintown, she was a daughter of the late John and Amanda (Willison) Elbin. Mrs. Fradiska was a member of Central Assembly of God Church, Pride of Allegany Council 110, Daughters of America, and the Senior Citizens Club. Surviving are three sons, Fran and Edward Fradiska, both of this city, and Daniel Fradiska, Bowling Green; four daughters, Mrs. E. Leo Barley, this city; Mrs. Thomas J. Gilmurray, Bayside, VA.; Mrs. Joseph McKechnic, Baltimore, and Mrs. William E. Raupach, Bowling Green; a brother, Edward Elbin, Oakland, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Kathryn E. Craig, Des Moines, 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The body is at the Hafer Funeral Home where the family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Pride of Allegany Council will conduct services at the funeral home tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. Services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home by Rev. Frank J. Fratto (?) and interment will be in the IOOF Cemetery, Flintstone.

7.9 Edward L. Elbin, b. 19 Mar 1886 in Mineral Co., WV, the day his mother died in childbirth; his father died in 1908. Edward was living in Flintstone, MD. In the 1900 census of Southampton (actually Elbinsville), Bedford Co., PA, he was a boarder, age only 14, living with the Robosson family. In the 1920 census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA, he was single, and a lodger, age 33, and living with the Manning family. In the 1930 census of Los Angeles, Los Angeles Co., CA, he was a lodger, divorced, living with the Williams family. He d. Jun 1973 in Alameda, CA.

7.10 William Albert Elbin, b. 27 Jul 1881 in Gilpen, Allegany Co., Maryland. In the 1900 census of Flintstone, he was 18, single, living with his mother. He registered for the WWI Draft and is of medium height and build, grey eyes and brown hair. He worked on railroads. By the 1920 census of Flintstone, he was married to Floda who was 14 years younger than he was. In the 1930 census of East Providence, Bedford Co., PA, he and Floda had no children, but this shows that the Elbin families of Flintstone and Providence are related. By the 1940 census of East Providence, we find some odd data: William is 59, born 1881, but states he was born in Indiana, heÕs married to Floda, and his citizenship states ÒNaturalizedÓ.

7.11 Therman Allen Elbin, b. 9 May 1891 in Maryland. He was living with his sister Esther in the 1920 census of Flintstone, Allegany Co., MD. By the 1930 census of Ayr, Fulton Co., PA, he is married to Edna, stating that both his parents were born in Maryland. In the 1939 Directory, Allen T. and Edna live at 3 N Waverly Terrace in Cumberland, Maryland, and he is a carpenter. In the 1940 census of Allegany Co., MD, they live at 17B Town Creek Road, and have a daughter, Betty, b. 1939. He enlisted in the WWII draft in 1942 as 5Õ 11Ó, 175 lbs, blue eyes and brown hair, age 50. He d. in Nov 1969 in Flintstone. 

7.12 Guy Charles Elbin, (twin), b. 23 Oct 1893 in Gilpen or Gilkin, Maryland. He is living with his mother in the 1930 census of Flintstone, single, age 37. He registered for the WWI draft and was short, slender, blue eyes, dark hair.

7.13 Esther F. Elbin, (twin), b. 23 Oct 1893 in Maryland, m. James Blizzard. Living with her in the 1920 census was her father, Henry A. Elbin, age 70. He was unaccounted for since the 1900 census.

In the 1910 census they were living in Southampton, Bedford Co., PA. In the 1920 census, they are living in Plainfield, Will Co., IL. Ama d. 26 Sep 1929 in Plainfield, Will Co., IL. They had children Glenn b. 11 May 1901, Ada b. 14 Jun 1905, Theodore b. 9 Aug 1902, Reese b. 4 Nov 1909.

7.16 Martha J. Elbin, b. 18 Jul 1880, d. 17 Dec 1896 at age 16.

7.17 Hulda Bell Elbin, b. 19 Oct 1882, d. 4 Jul 1967. She m. George Boor and had children Guy b. 24 Mar 1900, Spencer b. 26 Jul 1902, Ruth b. 17 Jun 1948, Orville b. 31 Dec 1906, and Hillary b. 13 May 1917.

7.18 Bessie Mae Elbin, b. 8 Aug 1886 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. She m. Enfield Scott Smith on 2 Dec 1905 and had children: Vada E. b. 15 Nov 1906, Philip E. b. 19 Aug 1908, Ada b. 13 Mar 1912. In the 1920 census of Mann Township, they had 2 more children: Ada P., and Alice S. Smith. In the 1930 census of Mann Township, they had one more child, Hilda. In the 1940 census, they were still living in Mann Township. In total she had 5 children: Vada Ellen b. 15 Nov 1906, Philip b. 19 Aug 1908, Ada b. 13 Mar 1913, Alice b. 21 Oct 1916, and Hilda b. 11 Jan 1921.

7.19 Cusie ÒKoozyÓ E. Elbin, b. 22 Aug 1888 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. She d. 9 Jun 1926. She m. Albert Diehl and had son Trafford Diehl b, 1908.

7.20 Dorcas Pearl Elbin, b. 21 Aug 1890 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. She d. 10 Oct 1929 in Hancock, OH. She m. Park Graber and had children Amos, Howard, Lucille, and Willard.

7.22* Henry Howard Elbin, b. 27 Jun 1893 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA, d. 18 Aug 1970. He m. Ada M. Collins who was b. 7 Oct 1901 and d. Apr 2000. They had children Roscoe, Leo, Blair, and Thelma by the 1930 census of Mann Township. He was farmer, was medium height and build, with black eyes and hair, as stated in WWI registration on 5 Jun 1917. His registration for WWII on 27 Apr 1942, Henry states he is white, 5Õ2Ó, 140 lbs, brown eyes, black and gray hair, light complexion. Ada M. was b. 7 Oct 1901 in Artemas and d. 27 Apr 2000 in Chambersburg, Franklin Co., PA, and is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Artemas, Bedford Co., PA.

Ada Marie Elbin, 98, of Manor Care Health Services, Chambersburg, and formerly of Artemas, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, in Chambersburg Hospital. Born Oct 7, 1901, in Artemas, she was a daughter of the late George and Elizabeth Ann Mountain Collins. She married H. Howard Elbin on Oct. 16, 1920 in Hagerstown, Md. He died Aug 18, 1970. Mrs. Elbin was a member of Lebanon Christian Church, Artemas. Before moving to Chambersburg three years ago, she was a member of Chaneysville Senior Citizens. Surviving are a son, Thurman (husband of Mary Helen Kegarise) Black of State College; a daughter, Thelma Monn of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sons, two brothers, and two sisters. Burial will be Monday in Fairview Cemetery.

Irvin Tewell who was b. 21 Jun 1880 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. They had children: William H. Tewell b. 1906; Theodore Tewell; Thelma Tewell; Robert Melvin Tewell b. 24 Feb 1915 in Clearville, Bedford Co., PA; Fred Tewell; Ralph Tewell. Bertha d. Mar 1920.

7.25 Pluma Annie Elbin, b. Mar 1886 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. She m. John E. Koontz  and they appear in the 1910 census of Mann Township, and she states that both her parents were born in PA. Likewise for 1920. They both appear in the 1930 census of Mann Township, living also with her brother, Robert Allen Elbin who was 19 at the time. In 1935 they lived briefly in Memphis, Tennessee, but both she and her husband returned to Snake Spring Valley, Bedford Co., PA, in the 1940 census. They had children Grace, Virgie, Edith, Lester, and Helen.

7.26 Santford Lee Elbin, b. 15 Feb 1888 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. He appears in the 1900 census of Mann Township with his parents and siblings. He became a farmer and married Nancy Tewell; she was b. 25 Feb 1885 in Piney Creek, Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. His draft record for WWI states his height was medium, medium build with blue eyes and light brown hair. He resided most of his life in Artemas, Bedford Co., PA. For WWII, he was 6Õ, 210 pounds, gray eyes, brown hair, with a ruddy complexion. In the 1930 census, he was 42 and Nancy was 45, both living in Mann Township. In the 1920 census of Mann Township, he is living alone with Nancy. Sanford d. 26 Jan 1961. They were buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Artemas, Bedford Co., PA. 7.27 John ÒJohnnyÓ E. Elbin, b. Jan 1890 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. He appears in the 1900 census of Mann Township with his parents and siblings. In 1910 he was a soldier, single, living in Manhattan, NY, with many others. He died while in the service in 1913 from drowning and is buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Mann Township.

Aug 20, 1909, in NY, under Lieut. Coburn, for 3 years, born in Artemas Co., PA, a farmer, brown eyes, dark hair, ruddy complexion, 5Õ 8 ½Ó, discharged Aug 28, 1912 at Ft. Jay? In NY, expired service.

Appears in the 1900 census of Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA, stating that he was b. Jan 1890, the son of H.B. Elbin of PA and Emma E. Elbin of PA.

Appears in the 1910 census of Manhattan, NY, age 22, stating that both his parents were born in PA.

7.28* Franklin ÒFrankÓ Reed Elbin, b. 17 May 1892 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. He appears in the 1900 census of Mann Township with his parents and siblings. He d. Jan 1982 in WDC. He lived at 247 Bond St., Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD, during WWII when he was 5Õ 6Ó, 135 lbs, blond hair, light complexion, gray eyes. By WWI, he had a wife and 2 children. By the 1930 census of Gross, Allegany Co., MD, he had 4 children and his wife Dolsie E. By the 1940 census of Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD, they were living at 247 Bond St. He m. Dolsie Imes who was b. 6 May 1891 and d. 19 Jun 1973.

He appears in the 1900 census of Mann Township with his parents and siblings. He m. Irma E. and both are buried at the Pleasant Ridge Church Cemetery in Buffalo Mills, Bedford Co., PA. He d. 1976 and she died in 2000.

He appears in the 1920 census of Allegany Co., MD, living with his father and siblings as her mother had died. In the 1930 census of Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA, he was living with his brother-in-law, John E. Koontz. In 1939 he was a driver, living with his wife Leota C. Elbin at 210 S. Smallwood, Cumberland, MD. In the 1940 census of Cumberland, Allegany Co. MD, he lived at 210 South Smallwood St. with his wife, Santa C. Elbin, age 22, and their 2 children. He d. 26 Sep 1977 in Cleveland, Cuyahoga Co., OH. A death notice of 5 May 2003, death occurred on 18 Apr 2003, lists Santa C. Elbin as born Leota C. Smith on 4 Jul 1916 who died in Cleveland as a widow at age 86; it is assumed she is the same person, as she was born to Vernon and Daisy D. Smith of Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. Leota C. (Smith) Elbin, b. 4 Jul 1916, d. 18 Apr 2003, buried at Brooklyn Heights Cemetery in Brooklyn Heights, Cuyahoga Co., OH.

7.37 Minnie F. Elbin, b. Feb 1896 or 20 Mar 1896 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. She never married, or at least not by the 1940 census. She d. 9 Oct 1980.

7.38 Dorothy M. Elbin, b. 24 Apr 1905 in Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. By the 1930 census of Orleans, Allegany Co., MD, she was married to Conda Shipley and had 2 children: Robert and Louise. Conda was b. 6 Aug 1898, d. 11 Nov 1971. They had children Robert, Louise, Willard.

7.41* Warren Kelly ÒKellyÓ Elbin, b. 24 Dec 1899 in Mann Township. He d. 14 Aug 1957 and is buried in Artemas, Bedford Co., PA. He m. Mabel R. Clingerman on 18 May 1933; she was b. 23 Jun 1913. They had children Delma, Dale, and Harold. He was mostly known as Kelley Warren Elbin. Most members of this  family were buried at the Fairview Cemetery in Artemas. Mabel was b. 23 Jun 1913. Listed in the 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, and 1940 census records of Mann Township, Bedford Co., PA. For the WWI Draft Registration, he was of medium height and build, brown eyes, black hair on 12 Sep 1918. For the WWI Draft Registration, he was of medium height and build, brown eyes, black hair on 12 Sep 1918.

In the 1930 census he was living in Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD, with the Clingerman family. In the 1940 census, he was living alone at 15 Waverly Terrace North, in Cumberland. He was an Acetate Worker with an 8th grade education. He enlisted for WWII on 18 May 1942 in Baltimore, MD, as a Warrant Officer and as a semi-skilled railroad brakeman, and he was married to Hazel Davis who was b. 24 May 1912. He killed his wife and then himself.

Marshall Hayes Elbin, 78, Hancock, MD, died Sunday, May 17, 1998 at Avalon Manor Nursing Home, Hagerstown, MD.

Born January 22, 1920 in Inglesmith, PA, he was the son of the late John Randolph and Willie Frances Smith Elbin.

He was a member of Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, PA.

He attended public schools in Mann Township, Bedford County, PA.

He worked in all phases of construction and was a member of Laborer's Union of North America, Local #616, Cumberland, MD.

He served in the 767th Tank Battalion, U.S. Army, from May 1, 1945 until May 1, 1946 and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

He was a member of Webster B. Harrison American Legion Post #26, Hancock, MD.

Surviving are his wife of 17 years, June G. McLaughlin Spriggs Elbin, at home; one daughter, Darlene Wink, Somerset, PA; two sons, Danny Elbin, Everett, PA, Don Elbin, Harrisonville, PA; one step-son, Lloyd Baughn McGowan, Hancock; two step-daughters, Kendra Kyne, Annapolis, MD, Annette Bishop, Flintstone, MD; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma Ruth Shipley Elbin; one daughter, Diana Trail; four sisters, Zellie Pearl Elbin, Ethel Grace Clingerman, Ruth L. Lehman, Mary S. Elbin; five brothers, Fred Elbin, Charles Ralph Elbin, Wade S. Elbin, Grant Elbin and Warren Elbin.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 20, at Fairview Christian Church, Artemas, PA with the Rev. Frank Kocek and Rev. Milton Morris officiating. Interment with military graveside honors provided by the Tri-State Honor Guard will be in Fairview Christian Church Cemetery.

The Helsley-Johnson Funeral Home, 306 Union Street, Berkeley Springs was in charge of arrangements.

In the year 2000 when the Lebanon Christian Church Members Directory was published for all members between 1900-200, Ada Elbin was the oldest member, having belonged to the church from 1927 to 2000 at the time of her death on 27 Apr 2000, age 98.

Ethel Regina Elbin [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Ethel Regina Elbin, 92, of Cumberland, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2009, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born June 18, 1917, in Cumberland, Miss Elbin was the daughter of the late Silas Elbin and Amy Cornelia (Hartsock) Elbin and was reared by her late aunt and uncle, John and Malinda Morse. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Elbin Hamburg and Leah Robosson; two brothers, Maurice and Robert Elbin; a great-niece, Amy Wilhelm; and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1935, Miss Elbin was a former employee of the Celanese Fibers Corporation of America and retired from L. Bernstein's Furniture Company with 35 years of service. Miss Elbin was a life-long member of the Melvin United Methodist Church, having joined in 1929. She served on the Administrative Board and Finance Committee of the church and was treasurer of the Memorial Scholarship Fund. Miss Elbin served as president of the Jean Rowland Circle.

Miss Elbin is survived by her nephew, John Robert Elbin, Chevy Chase; her nieces, Patricia Connelly, Pickens, S.C., Lois Elliott, Cumberland, and Susan Sirico and her husband Nicholas, Sharpsburg. She is also survived by three great-nephews, John Wilhelm, Cumberland, Lynnwood Elliott and wife Carla, Romney, W.Va., and Louis Sirico and his wife Kim, San Jose, Calif.; one great-niece, Lois Elliott Slack, Nashville, Tenn.; and one great-great-niece, Amanda Marie Elliott.
At her request, there will be no viewing and a graveside service will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park on Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dan Taylor officiating.

The family requests that memorial contributions may be directed to the Melvin United Methodist Church Organ Fund, 100 Reynolds St., Cumberland, MD 21502.

Betty Lee Tressler. He completed the 5th grade and was a Dyer by trade. He lived on Willow Brook Road in Cumberland, Allegany Co., MD. He enlisted in WWII in Allegany Co., MD, on 17 Sep 1941 in the Coast Artillery Corps as a Private at which time he was single, without dependents, height 72Ó, weight 186 lbs.

Robert L. Elbin

BOONSBORO - Robert Louis Elbin, 83, of 8507 Mapleville Road, and formerly of Cumberland, Md., died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village.

Born Jan. 26, 1920, in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Silas and Amy Hartsock Elbin.

His wife, Betty Lee Tressler Elbin, preceded him in death.

He was a retired machinist with Weinschel Engineering in Gaithersburg, Md.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Sirico of Sharpsburg; one son, John Robert Elbin of Chevy Chase, Md.; one sister, Ethel Elbin of Cumberland; and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Ada Hamburg and Leah Robossen.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
