He states that both his parents were born in IL. He is listed in the 1940 census of Clarksburg, Shelby Co., IL, age 15, living in a household of 3: his father Harry 50, his mother Gertie 49, and himself 15. He enlisted in WWII on 21 Apr 1943, at which time he was a farm hand, single, without dependents. At his death he was living in Belton, Cass Co., MO.

John ÒBillÓ Elben 86 of Belton, MO, formerly of Shelbyville, IL, was called to his eternal home at 4:30 PM Saturday April 9, 2011 at his residence in Carnegie Village in Belton, MO.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday April 22, 2011 in Glenwood Cemetery, Shelbyville. Jeffrey Storm, minister at St. PaulÕs Lutheran Church in Shelbyville, will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM Friday until time of the graveside at Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville. Military rites will be performed by the Shelby County Honor Guard. Memorials can be made to Lord of Love Lutheran Church at 8306 East 171 Street, Belton, MO, where John was a charter member. A memorial service will be held at a later date. JohnÓ Bill Ó was born Jan. 3, 1925 in Mode, IL the son of Harry Wilbert and Gertie Mae Bohske Elben.

He married Jeanette Schwenker on Nov. 17, 1946 and she passed away April 12, 2005.

Bill received his high school diploma from Stewardson-Strasburg High School while serving in the United States Air Force, and served his country from 1943 to 1945 during WWII. He flew many long-range missions over enemy territory, and received the Air Medal with five oak clusters. In 1953, he was recalled to active duty status during the Korean War and was assigned to seven different Air Force Bases in the United States and Newfoundland.

BillÕs entire life had a unique connection to the number Ò13Ó. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on the 13th; flew his first and last air missions on the 13th and retired on Dec. 13, 1970.

Bill and Jeanette then moved to Columbus, GA where she employed at the Army Air Force Exchange Service. He and Jeanette made their home in Columbus for 33 years until 2003 when they retired to Belton, MO.

Between his tours of duty in the military (1946 to 1953) they made their home in Shelbyville where he was employed by the Oliver Corporation and was a member of St. PaulÕs Lutheran Church and Roy Vanderpool American Legion Post #81.

Bill is survived by his loving daughter, Sharon Carneal of Belton, MO; grandson: Sean Bybee of Lee`s Summit, MO; sisters-in-law: Marie Stewardson of Rosemount, MN, Eileen Jenkins and husband Bob of Grand Haven, MI and Wanda King and husband Larry of Forsyth, IL; one niece; several nephews and several step nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette, son Lyle, son-in-law Tom Carneal and brothers-in-law Roy Schwenker Jr. and Don Stewardson; sister-in-law and husband, Shirley and Herb Dolowy; niece Kathy Moore; step-niece Terry Dolowy.

8.2 Orbit or Orbie E. Elben, b. 1914. He is listed in the 1920 census of Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN, living with his parents. Even though his parents lived in Terre Haute at least until 1925, Orbit is not found in the 1930 census.

He is listed in the 1940 census of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., ID, age 6, living with his parents. He lived at 1126 Linden Ave., Lewiston.

Bill Gene Elben, of Lewiston, passed away at Royal Plaza Care Center in Lewiston. He was 77. Bill lived in Lewiston his entire life. Bill was born April 22, 1933, to Marvel and Art Elben. He attended Webster and Whitman elementary schools, and Lewiston Junior High School and graduated.

Bill's first job was at the age of 6, pulling weeds for Mr. Karl. Then he mowed lawns and built fishing lures for Max McCline. Bill also worked for Golden Grain Dairy delivering milk and ice cream. The best part of that job was all of the ice cream he could eat right out of the machine. After the dairy Bill went to work for Coca Cola, then Potlatch Corp. callboard. Then in 1951, he was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell until retiring in 1982.

After high school, Bill married Mary Jane Martin-Elben-Kellogg. They had four children, Kathy, Randy, Brad and Pat. Bill and Mary Jane divorced in 1974.

Bill enjoyed hunting and fishing and shooting pool. He once snuck into the old pool hall on Main Street at 7 years old, and has played pool all his life.

Those who preceded him in death are his brother, Jim E. Elben; Bill's father, Art Elben; and mother, Marvel Nelson-Elben-Lockridge. Those surviving Bill are his children, Kathy Elben-Leinweber, Randy Elben, Brad Elben and Pat Elben; seven grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Normal Hill Cemetery in Lewiston. The Rev. Brad Bramlet will be officiating, with food and fellowship to follow at New Bridges Community Church in Lewiston.

Angeline Marie Raspone in 1955 and had children Juanita Marie, Samuel Henry, and Melvin Dean Elben. He is listed in the 1940 census of Lewiston, Nez Perce Co., ID, age 4, living with his parents.

She remarried, had daughter Amy (?), divorced, and moved to Savannah, GA with her sister in the summer of 2007. Gary had moved to Pine Grove, CA, in 1880 with Barbara Ann Miller, both from San Jose, Santa Clara Co., CA.

She was born Aug 15, 1950, lived together since about 1980 when they moved to Pine Grove CA and bought a house, 15055 Mitchell Mine Rd., Pine Grove, CA 95665, married her four years later in Reno, NV, had child custody of GaryÕs only son Eric Stephen Elben in 1980 when he was 8 yrs old, separated on 1 Jun 2000, divorced on 23 Feb 2007. In 2006 Barbara lived at 305 Stasal Ave., Jackson, CA, 209-223-2404. During this marriage, Gary started his own house painting business (about 1990) called ElbenÕs Painting Service, and Barbara worked in a government legal office in Calaveras County, CA.
