Children of Francis French Jr. and Anna Bowers, 2.8

3.1* Samuel French, b. 23 Jul 1704 in Derby, CT [16], d. 2 Feb 1783 age 79, m. 17 Dec 1733 to Martha Chapman, who was b. ca. 1714, d. 29 Oct 1780 age near 66 [6] [7] [19] [22]. Samuel was a freeman of Derby on 16 Sep 1777 [7, p. 187]. In 1777 all male citizens of lawful age in Seymour, including Samuel, were required to take an oath of fidelity [34, p. 45].

3.2 Charles French, b. 14 Feb 1707, d. 9 Nov 1783, age 76, in Derby, CT. He is buried in the Derby old cemetery. In memory of Charles FRENCH ESQR who died Nov the 9 1783 in the 77th year of his age. He was Register for the town of Derby 39 years. A soul prepared heeds no Delays the summons come the saint obeys, swift was His flight and short the Road - he closed his eyes and saw his God [31]. Charles was appointed to be on the Committee of Inspection of Derby in 1775, to put the Derby seashore in a state of defense [7, p. 175]. In 1777 he took an oath of fidelity ordered by Congress [7, p. 186]. In 1781 he was voted on a committee having full power to doom such inhabitants that have not paid the full tax [7, p. 193]. A council meeting was convened at his house in Derby, on 1 Jul 1783, only a few months before his death [7, p. 284]. In 1777 all male citizens of lawful age in Seymour, including Charles, were required to take an oath of fidelity [34, p. 45].

3.3* Israel French, Sr., b. 8 Oct 1709 in Derby CT, d. 27 Sep 1788 or 1783 in Bethany CT, m. 11 Sep 1739 in Derby CT to Sarah Loveland, dau. of Thomas and Eunice (House) Loveland, who was b. 1721, d. 21 Mar 1794 [6]. Israel was one of the first settlers in the north part of Derby, now the town of Seymour. He was surveyor of highways in 1764 [22]. He was in the Rev. War in 1776 as a Private for WadsworthÕs Brigade, 5th Battalion, Conn. Troops [7] [19].

3.4 Francis French, b. 1710 [4] [19] [20] [22], probably died young.

3.5 Mary French, b. 6 Feb 1711/2 in Derby, CT, d. 29 Mar 1802 age 90 buried at the Woodbridge "Milfordside" cemetery [31], m. 18 Apr 1734 to Silvanus Baldwin [6] [19] [22]. Had children Hezekiah and Sarah [7] [28]. Children [7]:

1. Mary, b. Oct. 16, 1735.

2. Dorcas, b. Aug. 18, 1738.

3. Elisha, b. Mar. 1, 1741.

4. Sarah, b. Mar. 16, 1744; d. Jan. 23, 1746.

5. Hezekiah, b. Jan. 21, 1747; d. March 2, 1747.

6. Sarah, b. Feb. 1, 1748.

7. Charles, b. Mar. 8, 1751.

8. Hezekiah, b. Aug. 24, 1756.

3.6 Hannah French, b. 1715/16 in Derby, CT, d. 24 Jan 1781 age 66, m. Abel Gunn III [6] [19] [22] for his second wife [7]. Hannah was buried at the Old Cemetery in Derby CT [31].

3.7 Nathaniel French, b. 28 Oct 1717 in Derby, CT, d. 13 Nov 1781 age 64 [6] [19] [22]. Samuel was a freeman of Derby on 16 Sep 1777 [7, p. 187]. In 1777 all male citizens of lawful age in Seymour, including Nathaniel, were required to take an oath of fidelity [34, p. 45]. Buried at the Old Cemetery in Derby. In memory of Mr. NATHANIEL FRENCH who died Nov 3 1781 aged 64 years. Here lies his body Blended with the dust Waiting the Resurrection of the just.
