[3] ELBERT Family. Not of this line:

Rachel spells her name Rachel Elbert. She was born ca. 1800 in Maryland which agrees precisely with the 1840 census. She is in District 3, Kent Co., MD, and Black, living with Thomas Elbert who is 47 on page 50 of 72 pages. No Elburn/Elbourn is listed within these 72 pages; only the Elbert family. In 1850, they are living with:

Rachel Elbert, 50, b. 1800, Black, head of household. SHE NEEDS TO BE BORN 1810.

Thomas Elbert, 47, b. 1803, Black, not head of household. Do not know relationship.

John Elbert, 18, b. 1832, Black — same age as John A. Elbert living with James, maybe counted twice. Actually, IÕve seen both John A. Elbert and John Jackson Elburn — his name was actually John Anderson Jackson Elburn.

Martha Elbert, 16, b. 1834, Black — name also listed with James in 1850, listed as age 5 or born in 1845.

Sarah Elbert, 15, b. 1835, Black – nothing matches

William Elbert, 12, b. 1838, Black – nothing matches

[5] Additions for James Elburn Jr.

JAMES F. IS THE SON OF REUBEN AND BARBARA KROFT ELBURN – I DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE F STANDS FOR.

THE ATTTACHMENT ATT00255 ONLY SAYS ÒWHOÕS THIS?Ó – WHOÕS WHO?

THE THIRD PHOTO YOU SENT WAS JAMES JR, SON OF JAMES AND ELIZABETH COVINGTON, HUSBAND OF ELIZABETH HAGUE

I WENT TO THE WEBSITE AND LOOKED AT THE OTHER PHOTOS: THERES

SAMUEL j – SON OF JAMES JR. AND ELIZABETH HAGUE

WILLIAM – SON OF JAMES JR AND ELIZABETH HAGUE

REUBEN – SON OF JAMES JR. AND ELIZABETH HAGUE, BURIED WITH HIS SECOND WIFE, INDIANA QUICK

REUBEN ELBURN 2ND INDIANA CALVARY – THATÕS REUBEN SON OF JAMES AND ELIZABETH (ABOVE) – IF YOU LOOK AT THE PHOTOS YOU CAN TELL THE SMALL STONE WITH THE CSA INSCRIPTION BUTTS RIGHT UP TO THE REUBEN AND INDIANA STONE ON ITÕS RIGHT – THE REUBEN AND INDIANA STONE LOOKS RELATIVELY NEW, SO SOMEONE PROBABLY PLACED IT THERE RECENTLY, WHILE THE CSA STONE IS AN OLD ONE

BARBARA KROFT ELBURN – REUBENÕS 1ST WIFE

NOW:

AMANDA ELBURN (22 APR 1823 – 9 MAR 1855) MARRIED GEORGE WASHINGTON QUICK (29 DEC 1809 – 16 NOV 1880)

INDIANA MARRIAGES

GEO W QUICK

AMANDA ELBURN

26 DEC 1846

FRANKLIN CO.

I DO NOT KNOW WHO AMANDAÕS PARENTS ARE. MIGHT SHE BE THE UNIDENTIFIED DAUGHTER OF JAMES ELBURN AND ELIZABETH COVINGTON, WHO WENT TO INDIANA WITH HER BROTHER REUBEN? THATÕS ABOUT THE ONLY PLACE I CAN PLACE HER, BUT HAVE NEVER FOUND ANY EVIDENCE TO SUPPORT MY THEORY

AND THE LOUISA M. QUICK IS A DAUGHTER OF GEO W AND AMANDA. THEY HAD THREE OTHER CHILDREN – HARRY HARRISON, SARAH C., AND FRANKLIN ALVIN

I WOULD THINK THERE HAS TO BE SOME RELATION BETWEEN INDIANA QUICK (PARENTS LEWIS DEWEESE QUICK AND DRUSILLA CLAYTON) AND GEORGE WASHINGTON QUICK (PARENTS JUDGE JOHN QUICK AND MARY EADS), BUT I NEVER PURSUED IT

I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND IT SEEMS VERY APPARENT TO ME THAT THE PARENTS OF AMANDA ELBURN QUICK ARE JAMES ELBURN JR. AND ELIZABETH HAGUE ELBURN. ALL THE EVIDENCE I HAVE FOUND RO DATE SUPPORTS IT.

I HAVE EMAILED AN INDIANA VOLUNTEER WHO DOES LOOKUPS ON WILLS, ALSO THE INDIANA STATE RESEARCH FACILITY TO SEE IF THEY MIGHT HAVE A WILL FOR EITHER JAMES OR ELIZABETH [THINKING THEY MIGHT NAME THEIR CHILDREN IN THEIR WILLS]. BUT I TRULY BELIEVE WHAT I HAVE DOCUMENTED IN THE ATTACHED FILE SUPPORTS AMANDAÕS PARENTAGE.

PS

I THINK GEORGE WASHINGTON QUICK (MARRIED AMANDA ELBURN) AND INDIANA QUICK (MARRIED REUBEN ELBURN) ARE UNCLE AND NIECE. INDIANAÕS PARENTS WERE LEWIS DEWEES QUICJ AND DRUSILLA CLAYTON. LEWIS D. QUICK WAS THE SON OF JUDGE JOHN QUICK AND MARY EADS. JUDGE JOHN AND MARY ALSO HAD A SON, WASHINGTON QUICK (ALL THIS FROM ÒA GENEALOGY OF THE QUICK FAMILY IN AMERICAÓ BY ARTHUR CRAIG QUICK).

ANNA L. WAS ANNA L. HAPPERSETT. I FOUND AN OBIT FOR HARRY HAPPERSETT THAT LISTS SISTER ANNA LEE ELBURN OF ANNAPOLIS. I DID SEE WHERE SHE WAS BORN IN ROCK HALL.

CHARLES R IS CHARLES RUSSELL. PRECEDED IN DEATH BY WIFE SANDRA JEAN. DAU SHERRI FERGUSON AND SON CHARLES R JR.

THE NAME HARRY HAPPERSETT IS VERY FAMILIAR TO ME - IT SAYS HE SERVED IN WWII SO HE WAS PROBABLY IN THE SERVICE WITH MY FATHER.

[8] PORTER Families in Maryland:

COULD BE, BUT LIKELY NOT; THERE WERE MULTIPLE PORTER FAMILIES IN KENT COUNTY.

BUT I DO KNOW OF THIS JOHN PORTER.

HE DIED ABT 1853, AND MARRIED SARAH ASHLEY ON 20 FEB 1797 IN KENT COUNTY. SARAH WAS BORN 27 APR 1772 IN CHESTER PARISH, KENT COUNTY. SHE WAS THE DAUGHTER OF JOHN ASHLEY AND SARAH ROBERTS.

JOHN AND SARAH ASHLEY PORTER HAD:

REBECCA ABT 1809

HENRY A 1811-1858

JOHN A

JOSEPH

MARY

SARAH ANN

DAUGHTER SARAH ANN PORTER WAS MARRIED TO BOTH ARTHUR PRESLEY (WHO DIED 1832) AND MATTHEW HOWARD (BORN 15 APR 1807) - TWO OF THE MEN NAMED IN THE COURT CASE THAT JOHN PORTER IS SUMMONED FOR.

Joseph Porter ran for the MD House of Delegates for Kent County in 1817

original poll books at the MD archives, Annapolis. Joseph received one vote.

Chancery Kent Co. 16 June 1841

Joseph Porter vs Millicent Ashley, John M Ashley, Mary Jane Ashley, George T Ashley, Joseph M Ashley, Henry Porter, Anna Maria Porter, Millicent Ashley. KE, petition to sell Forrest of Dean, Warners Levles. Recorded Chancery Record 157, page 224.

IN THIS LAST CHANCERY RECORD, MILLICENT ASHLEY IS MILLICENT RASIN MARRIED JOHN W ASHLEY. ONE OF THEIR DAUGHTERS, ANNA MARIA ASHLEY, MARRIED HENRY PORTER, SON OF JOSEPH PORTER AND SARAH ASHLEY ABOVE,

I WOULD SUSPECT THAT JOHN W. ASHLEY AND SARAH ASHLEY PORTER ARE RELATED (BY MORE THAN THE FACT THEIR CHILDREN MARRIED), BUT I NEED TO INVESTIGATE THAT.

[12] Judith Elbourn Curtis, 9026 S. Dateland Dr., Tempe, AZ 85284-3000, 480-756-6022, age 70, husband is Evan H. Curtis, age 74, but he may go by Ted. I think their son has the same name Evan and was born in 1960. According to Zillow, it is a very substantial large house which they bought in 1990 and it is not for sale. I left a message on the phone, but will try to call her tonight.

Judith Elbourn Curtis, P.O. Box 995, Snowflake, AZ, no phone. This town was founded by a man named Erastus Snow and William Jordan Flake. It is high in the mountains, 5630 elevation, so I canÕt imagine she is there now.

I think they go to Snowflake in the hot summers because their house in Tempe is probably their main residence.

She is also in FaceBook as ÒJudy Elbourn CurtisÓ

https://www.facebook.com/judy.elbourncurtis?fref=ts

There she says she got married on 10 Oct 2012 É.. ??? She must have remarried as she has photos of her children on her Facebook page. ThatÕs probably why I canÕt find Ted anywhere. Or . . . perhaps she is talking about her son getting married.

I see sheÕs 7.56 Judith Ann Elbourn, dau. of Merlin, granddaughter of William Henry, and great-granddaughter of Lemuel, the problem child. SheÕs the one who would have the answer. SheÕs in the same heritage as Big Jay.

Perhaps Curtis Lee Elburn 8.9 would be a possibility for a DNA test. HeÕs outside the Lemuel line.

[13] Joshua Kelley, descendant of Henrietta Elburn, hardtac_426@yahoo.com. Written on 3 Jun 2014: This family has definitely caused me many headaches trying to figure out. Starting with my 2x great grandmother Sarah, she was listed in the census as a Porter as her mother was clearly Henrietta Porter. However her marriage certificate said her maiden name was Elburn. Say what? Then found out that Henrietta's maiden name was also Elburn. Took a while but finally have come to the conclusion that Henrietta was a second wife to James Porter who was 37 years her senior. Sarah was their first child probably born out of wedlock which is why she took the Elburn name. Probably quite the scandal back then. James Porter was a widow living with his son when he would have met Henrietta. I have a DNA test on file but not sure if it would help you or not as I am not a direct descendant. Sarah married James Kelley who I am directly descended from. Haven't compared to any others though.

[14] Covington Family Notes:

Covington Research: From Kent County, Maryland and Vicinity, List of Militia and Oaths of Allegiance, June 1775, Maryland Original 13th Batt. Militia List at Maryland Historical Society, Baltimore, MD, commanded by Col. Richard Graves, from FamilySearch website:

ÒAÓ William Covington was in the 5th Class in Quaker Neck.

ÒAÓ Thomas Covington was in the 7th Class.

ÒAÓ James Covington was in the 8th Class.

In the 5th Co. of the Revolutionary War (1777-1783), shows ÒaÓ Peter Covington and Joshua Covington.

No Elburns in the Quaker Neck Battalion, the Lower Langford Battalion, the Worton Battalion, nor the Kent County Militia.

The Covington family who immigrated from England to Maryland: ÒAÓ Thomas Covington and his wife Ann in 1665; John Covington and his wife Mary and children Jane, Margarett, Katherine, Sarah, Jane, John, Nehemiah in 1665. John Covington in 1680, Philip Covington in 1700, Levin Covington in 1715, Samuel Covington in 1716, Abraham in 1722, Peter in 1725, Isaac in 1742, William in 1748, Nathaniel in 1759, and no other Covington until 1955. Knowing that Elizabeth was born between 1770-1775, it is highly likely that she was born in Maryland, unless ElizabethÕs family migrated from another state.

[15] ÒAÓ Henry Elborn d. Apr 1850 in the 14th Ward of Baltimore, MD, before the 1850 census. The name ÒElbornÓ is so rare early on that anyone with this name is probably related. The name, date, and location all fit for this person; however, he is listed as ÒmulattoÓ, which assumes that his father was a white Elborn and his mother was Black. See https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/M31Y-CW8.

Description: Macintosh HD:Users:Mara:Desktop:Henry1.png

Data that matches up with Henry:

á      His name, especially Elborn, is rare.

á      His age, which is 40 in 1850 or born in 1810.

á      He disappears from MD in the 1850 census.

á      His father James had 4 slaves in the 1810 census and Henry is considered a mulatto.

á      In the 1840 census he was engaged in manufacture and trade and may have gone to Baltimore.

á      ThereÕs no other death record on him.

á      His brother James Jr. moved to Indiana, but his 2 sisters, Ann and Juliann, lived in Baltimore.

á      There is no other Henry living in Baltimore in 1840 as he was living in Kent, nor was there any Henry whatsoever living in Baltimore during the 1800s. The Henry in Baltimore in 1850 lived elsewhere, probably in Kent Co., MD.

á      If HenryÕs father was James Elburn Sr., Henry and his father would have the same DNA. A male descendant of his son George Washington Elburn would have to take the test.
