Eva Taylor Elbon 86 of Strasburg passed away Saturday, August 22, 2009 at Shenandoah Memorial Hospital in Woodstock.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at the Stover Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Baseler officiating. Burial will follow at the St. Stephen's Cemetery.

She was b. in White Hall, VA on February 24, 1923 a daughter of the late Stewart and Julia Shirley Taylor. She retired from the News Stand where she worked as a clerk for eighteen years. She was a member of the St. Stephen's Lutheran Church where she was involved in WELCA. She was the widow of Joseph Daniel Elbon. In additions to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Lauren Nicole Elbon; a sister, Reva L. Pierce; and a brother, Mack Taylor, and Alvin Taylor.

Survivors include her son Charles Elbon and wife, Linda of Strasburg; a grandson, Chris Elbon and wife, Lawana of Strasburg; a great granddaughters, Jacqueline V. Elbon, and Maria R. Elbon; her brother and sisters Thelma L. Snapp of Visalia, CA, Gilbert B. Taylor of Winchester, and Mary F Galloway of Orange City, FL; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Ryman, Granville Dellinger, Wayne Broy, Norman Racey, Chris Elbon, and Bill Rankin.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home from 7 9 P.M. Tuesday evening.

He was a former employee of the Northern VA Daily having worked thirty six years and retired as a lead person in the press room. He was a proud U.S Army veteran of WWII and a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg where he set up the blood drive for the post. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and the Strasburg Moose Lodge #403. He m. Eva Marie Vance who was b. 9 Oct 1928, d. 23 Aug 2001, and is buried at the Panorama Memorial Gardens in Waterlick, Warren Co., VA.

Lloyd Franklin Elbon, age 86, a resident of Strasburg, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the home of his daughter in Broadway, Va.



A funeral service for Mr. Elbon was conducted 
Wednesday, March 21, 2012, at Stover Memorial Chapel with Pastor Ed Wilkins officiating. Burial followed in Panorama Memorial Gardens in Warren Co. with full military honors conducted by the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77, Strasburg.



He was b. in Strasburg, Va., on Dec. 20, 1925, the son of the late Moses Hamman and Susie B. Bly Elbon.

He was a former employee of the Northern VA Daily, having worked 36 years and retired as a lead person in the pressroom. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg, where he set up the blood drive for the post. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and the Strasburg Moose Lodge No. 403. Lloyd was known for his famous Sloppy Pot Pie, love of music and dancing and was a great handyman, who loved to help others.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Marie Vance Elbon.



Survivors include his children, Jennifer E. Brown and husband Woody, of Broadway, Va., and Dean F. Elbon of Strasburg; and grandchildren, Brandi R. Faulconer, Sara Elbon and Dakota Brown.

Pallbearers were William Ryman, Dennis Ryman, Mark Carter, Barry Burner, Brian Drummond and Wayne Pence.

The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of memorial contributions to the Shenandoah American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, 157 E. Washington St., Strasburg, VA 22657.

Jack was one of the first victims of germ warfare while in the Korean War in October 1953. He had Hemorrhagic Fever, (similar to Black Plaque) they believed the Chinese had infected rats and they went to the US Army bases because of the mess halls. Many soldiers succumbed to the disease. More than 3000 troops became ill with symptoms that included renal failure, generalized hemorrhage, and shock. It had a 10% mortality rate. Jack was lucky to survive. He was b. Jan. 19, 1920, at Sago, the son of the late Grover Elbon and Elizabeth Simmons Elbon.

In 1948 he was m. to JoAnne Winemiller Elbon, who survives.

Surviving are four daughters, Nancy Elbon, Buckhannon, Patty McQuain and husband, Jack, Buckhannon, Polly Turner and husband, Jack, Buckhannon, and Carol Grose and husband, Bob, Buckhannon; three sons, Steven Elbon and wife, Sherry, Buckhannon, Bert Elbon and wife, Marie, Vian, Okla., and Jim Elbon and wife, Emily, Niles, OH; two sisters, Lois Jean Masters, Westminster, Md., and Carda Elbon, Maryland; 15 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Kay Elbon, four brothers, Joe Elbon, John Elbon, Ralph Elbon and Woodrow Elbon; and one sister, Glenna Elbon.

Mr. Elbon was a saw mill operator and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal.

He was a member of the Sago Baptist Church and was a lifetime member of the French Creek Chapter 36 of Disabled American Veterans.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday. Interment will be in the Elbon Cemetery at Sago.

Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion will conduct military honors at graveside.

May 12, 1928 in Adrian, WV, a daughter of the late Jeff and Anna Lee Smallridge Winemiller. On November 25, 1948 she m. Frank Burton Elbon who preceded her in death on January 24, 2003. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Marilyn Kay Elbon; one brother, Ronald Winemiller and one step son, Burton Elbon. She is survived by one son, Steven Elbon and wife Sherry of Buckhannon; two daughters, Nancy Lee Elbon of Buckhannon and Patty McQuain and husband Jack of Buckhannon; one brother, John Winemiller of Zephyr Hills, FL; two grandsons, Chris Elbon of Bridgeport, WV and Brian McQuain of Buckhannon; two granddaughters, Nicki Russell and Mandy McQuain both of Buckhannon; great-grandsons, Nicholas and Nathaniel; great-granddaughters, Brooklyn and Emily; one step son, Jim Elbon of Girarde, OH and two step daughters, Polly Turner and Carol Grose both of Buckhannon.
