Second Generation

Children of Reuben ElbonÕs Grandfather, 1.1

2.1* ReubenÕs Father, b. ca. 1745.

2.2 Elizabeth Elburn, birthdate unknown, Revolutionary Patriots of Kent & Queen Anne's Counties, Maryland, by Henry C. Peden, p. 84 and 85, book from the Historical Society in Chestertown, Maryland. Elizabeth is placed here temporarily until we can find a proven place for her, but placing her here might lead us to a clue about Reuben as both were in Frederick Co.

Elizabeth Elburn in Colonial Families of the Eastern Shore on page 275 where she is listed in 1770 with an Andrew Miller as having a baseborn child. Note: Elizabeth is placed here as circumstantial evidence. No record of her is available in Maryland other than this record. If her baseborn child was a son, his DNA would not be of the biological Elburn family. The American Genealogical-Biographical Index (AGBI) states that Andrew Miller was born in 1750 in Maryland which is not a precise record. No record for an Andrew Miller has been found on findmypast.co.uk in either Cambridgeshire or Hertfordshire England as born between 1730-1750; therefore, this incident probably occurred in Maryland.

ÒAnÓ Elizabeth Elborn appears in Trumpington, Cambridgeshire, England, born 29 Jun 1749, dau. of William and Elizabeth.

ÒAnÓ Elizabeth Ellbourn appears in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, England, born 12 Aug 1753 in Harpenden, dau. of Nathan and Elizabeth, also listed as Nathaneel Ellbourn. This entry interests me because:

Her name is spelled with a double ÒLÓ, the same way that Mathew spelled his name, plus Mathew and Nathaniel were together in the Rev. War in Maryland, and because of the similar age of Mathew and Nathaniel. This particular Elizabeth does not show a marriage nor death record in Hertfordshire. It would be useless to look in other counties as the name Elizabeth and Sarah were probably the most common female names at that time.

Searching for a Nathan Ellbourn who married shortly before 1753 in Hertfordshire, I find only one, Nat Elborn, married Jan 1745 to Hannah Skeg in St. Albans, St. Peter, Hertfordshire. Therefore, the wifeÕs name is incorrect.

Nathan was probably born before 1735. The only Nathaniel born in England listed on findmypast.co.uk is Nathaniel Elbourne, b. 2 Mar 1755 in Aldenham, Hertfordshire, England, son of Thomas and Elizabeth.

These searches might prove that Elizabeth Ellbourn was born in Maryland.

ÒAnÓ Andrew Miller is listed in 1776 in the township of Elizabeth Hundred, Frederick Co., MD, on ancestry.com. No other Andrew Miller is listed anywhere close to this area nor in this timeframe. In the 1790 census, Andrew Miller is living in Frederick, Maryland, with 1 male under 16 and 2 females. The only marriage near that date and in Frederick is to Rachel Foutz on 18 Jul 1780. ÒAnÓ Andrew Miller, Private, was discharged from the Rev. War on 8 Jun 1778, from the Muster Roll of Capt. John KershnerÕs Compy. Guarding the Prisoners of War at Fort Frederick. No Elborn is on this list, but Jacob Rorer was discharged from this same Muster Roll on 20 May 1778; Henry RorerÕs daughter Catherine Rorer, married Reuben ElbonÕs eldest son. The Passenger and Immigration Lists show ÒanÓ Andrew Miller immigrating to Maryland in 1762. Family Trees on ancestry.com indicate that Andrew Miller was born in 1731 in Germany, married Rachel Foutz on 18 Jul 1780 in Frederick Co., MD, and died in Frederick on 26 Apr 1814, age 83.
