*Note that the under 16 male and the over 16 male entries are reversed. LaffordÕs children shown in the 1790 census are: Mary abt 10, William abt 7, Joseph abt 5, and James abt 2. Lafford lived on the north branch of the Pacolet River in Spartanburg, SC, at this time. Lafford French is part of FFA Chart #188. The phonetic ph represents the ÒfÓ sound in Lophard and Lafford. Joseph French, the brother of Lafford, does not appear in the 1790 census [1].
