Jeremiah French was born in (Amwell, Hunterdon County, New Jersey) on 12 June
1762; and enlisted in the Revolution War while living in Hunterdon County, New
Jersey; source: (Archives of the State of
New Jersey) and the (Official Roster Of Continental Troops). He and his family moved to Pennsylvania following the war. JeremiahÕs
wifeÕs father also moved to this same area of Pennsylvania. John Williams left
a will dated 17 January 1809, which proved in June 1809 they were in Bedford
Co., PA. The will names Hannah French as his daughter. Jeremiah built
the oldest mill (1810) in Morgan Township, Butler County, Ohio according
to: Western Biographical Publishing Company, 1882. Jeremiah
French died and was buried on his farm in Scipio, Franklin County,
Indiana, which is directly adjacent to Butler County, Ohio. Later was buried at
Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio. The family bible and other material were
burned and no copies made.

On 3/19/1899 Nathaniel Granville French wrote a
letter to his son, Ransford ÒFordÓ
Morton French. Nathaniel described what he knows of his relatives. This is
part of that letter: ÒI have no records of the French family. About all I know
is my grandfather Jeremiah French was born in Hunterdon Co. New Jersey and came
to Ohio (Hamilton Co) about 1800 where my father of same name was born. Both
died of cholera in 1834, I being raised without parents and distant from any of
my fatherÕs people. I never had a chance to know much about them. I don't think
you can scrape up any relationship to call your friend.Ó

witnesses in the will for John Williams Sr. in Bedford Co., PA in 1809; this
